SAFETY RECALL NOTICE: NHTSA Campaign # 05E-064

October 28, 2005

Dear Owner of a 2005 Yakima Mighty Joe 2 or Mighty Joe 3,

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

REASON FOR RECALL

Yakima Products, Inc. has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in its 2005 Mighty Joe 2 and Mighty Joe 3 rear-of-car-mounted, strap-style bicycle racks. The latches designed to support the load arms may appear to be latched even when they are not latched. In such a case, the bicycle load arms may collapse while one or more bicycles are mounted on the rack. This could cause injury or property damage.

PLEASE CEASE USE OF YOUR MIGHTY JOE 2 OR MIGHTY JOE 3 IMMEDIATELY. PLEASE REMOVE THE PRODUCT FROM YOUR VEHICLE.

Verify your Mighty Joe

WHAT YAKIMA WILL DO

Yakima will reimburse all owners of the 2005 Mighty Joe 2 and Mighty Joe 3 in one of two ways. The owners will select the method of remedy. The owners can choose to receive:

1. A check in the amount of the manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the relevant product ($119 USD or $200 CAN for the Mighty Joe 2 and $139 USD or $225 CAN for the Mighty Joe 3) including applicable sales tax.

OR

2. A check for $25, plus a comparable replacement product of retail value equal to your recalled product, which we plan to ship to owners who select this solution by March 2006. (Yakima will ship the new product to the address you indicate on your recall form).
